Medicare rebates are available
If your doctor has put you on a care plan that includes dietetics you could be eligible for a Medicare rebate. This means Medicare will cover part of the fee, and from July 2024, the rebate is approximately $60.35 per session. If you’ve hit the Medicare Safety Net, the rebate might be higher, so it’s worth registering for it to get the most out of your health care rebates across the board. If you have private health insurance, you might be able to claim a rebate for dietetics (just note it can’t be used alongside Medicare). The amount you get back will depend on your health fund and the level of cover you have. If you’re not sure, it’s a good idea to give your health fund a quick call to check if dietetics is covered and how much they’ll rebate. The item codes are 500 for initial consults and 600 for review consults.
